The days are packed full of activities all designed to give you an insight into traditional life in the countryside and connect with local communities. This is a great way to experience the nature and local traditions while giving back to communities you visit.

Trip itinerary

Day 1

Mae Wang countryside

Pickup at 8 AM in Chiang Mai. Transportation to Mae Wang countryside (about 45 min, depending on road conditions). Stop at a local market to stock up on supplies. Transportation to treking start point in Sop Win (short drive. Trek in the forest by a waterway on mixed terrain (about 3 hr, depending on pace and number of stops along the way). Stop at a viewpoint and by a waterfall. Cook jungle style lunch in bamboo – traditional way of cooking for local communities, lunch consists of several traditional northern Thai dishes. Afternoon trek to Karen tribe village (a selection of trails is available, the trek can take from 1-3 hr, depending on guests’ wishes). Meet the hosts and learn to cook traditional Thai dishes with them (cooking class in a traditional kitchen). Dinner. Homestay in the village

Day 2

Mae Wang countryside

Breakfast. Volunteering until lunch (either at the local school, helping the teacher with daily tasks or in the farmland, helping the farmers, this depends on the school schedule as well as on guests’ wishes). Lunch in the village. Visit a local elephant camp and feed and bathe the elephants (about 1 hr visit). Return to the village and help hosts prepare dinner. Dinner. Homestay in the village

Day 3

Mae Wang countryside

Choice of activity: Volunteering until lunch (either at the local school, helping the teacher with daily tasks or in the farmland, helping the farmers, this depends on the school schedule as well as on guests’ wishes) – OR - learning local crafts: Karen weaving and basket making. Lunch in the village. Say goodbye to the villagers and transportation to Wang River in the valley (about 30 min, depending on road conditions). Bamboo rafting (about 45 min, depending on water level). Seasonal activity (usually from June to September): River tubing. Transportation to Chiang Mai (about 1 hr, depending on road conditions).
